ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The great apes have attracted human attention in zoos because their appearance and behavior patterns may be similar to humans. Maintaining their welfare is one of the most important mission at the zoo.
There are lots of institutions in southeast Asia currently taking care of great apes. To promote our husbandry and veterinary knowledge and skills, Taipei zoo is cooperating with European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), EAZA Great ape TAG and SEAZA Species Management Committee (SSMC) to hold the “2021 GREAT APE Husbandry & Health Workshop.” The workshop will take place online from November 30th to Dec. 3rd, 2021.
In the workshop, we are going to invite experts to share their great ape work experience. The workshop will cover topic related to great ape husbandry and health, including welfare, keeper care, training, enrichment, veterinary, nutrition…etc.
First day will be keynotes for fundamental concept of population management and animal welfare including breeding programs, Welfare, Research, Education, in situ conservation & Conservation Database. From December 1st to 3rd each day there will be husbandry, housing, health, nutrition and etc. for Orangutan, Gorilla and Chimpanzee. One day for one species. We would like to offer the comprehensive learning opportunity in one day for one species for colleagues who take care of different species.
We are looking forward to seeing you online at the workshop!
